For the Car
Winter coat, hat, and gloves; ideally a blanket (or more than one) as well
First-aid kit
Some non-perishable food such as granola bars, or crackers; even just some hard candy can help
Strike anywhere matches in a water-tight container
Candles and an empty coffee can to melt snow; a cup is a good idea as well
Flashlight with extra batteries
Small tool kit or at least an all purpose tool
Shovel
Jumper cables
Bottled water for use in the car and for consumption.
For the House.
Flashlight and batteries.
A properly vented wood burning stove. Wood or pellets to put in it. If the gas is compromised too you can cook on it. These are fantastic investments.
Candles.
Keep a large bottle or 2 of water outside change it if it defrosts. You can put these in the fridge and freezer to maintain cold.
A large plastic tub to put food in ( and store all this stuff ) if it’s cold enough outside.
Battery powered radio
Manual can opener
Fire extinguisher
Rock salt
Activities….a deck of cards a puzzle book ect.
