You can grow what ever you want to in Iowa. The only thing you may have trouble with are the citrus trees such as oranges, grapefruit (winters too cold). You can grow any vegetable that is known to man in Iowa, as well as any type of fruit including cherries, apples, plums, pears and so on. Hope this answers your question….

OHHHHHHHH the black dirt. I grew up in Iowa. My mom had a garden with just damn near everything. And we had weird stuff that she knew from growing up in Texas…so when I say Iowa soil can grow just about anything, I mean…anything.
The crops there are corn, soybeans, and some wheat…grasses and grains that are used for livestock feed. We can grow apples and pears and cherries on the various orchards. There were grapes growing wild behind the house. Asparagus and rhubarb grow wild too, and mushrooms.
My mom put in various kinds of potatos, tomatos, zuchinni, yellow squash, eggplant, beans, peas, onions, carrots, radish, lettuce, cabbage, kholrabi, turnips, watermelon, peppers, corn, and flowers.
