When did she ask for money? I guess I am missing where the scam comes in. She sounds like a good room mate.

Edit: Reread. I see, you got 2 very similar emails from 2 supposedly different people. Ask to meet her and meet at a coffee shop or something. If she sends you a money order, why not? She can’t rip you off that way. I would meet her somewhere in public.

I wouldn’t take a money order or a bank draft from anyone, under any circumstances. There are simply too many fake ones floating around. It can take months for them to clear, not days or a week or two.

I wouldn’t let anyone have my account number and routing number either. They’ll clean you out.

My guess is you’ll get the money order or a bank draft and a week later find out she’s got an emergency and needs the money back because she changed her plans. You’ll send her the money back and six weeks later the money order or draft will bounce back.

    It’s obviously a scam.

If you want to have some fun set up an account (free trial account) at http://www.pointofmail.com. It will tell you exactly where your email to her was opened (city and country), when it was opened (date and time), how long it was open (minutes and seconds), and how many times it was forwarded, if any. If it’s forwarded you’ll get the same info when the second guy opens it. You also get the IP address of each computer that opens the email along with the ISP. Easy to catch ‘em in lies.

Total scam. They give you a money order or check which clears, then turns out to be fraudulent, and you have to pay it back. Also, the broken English can be a dead giveaway, e.g.: “I will love to know…”

    SCAM!!

    It’s a scam…the money order will be a counterfit!

Ted, I would be very afraid if I were you. Very afraid….

“If it looks too good to be true, it usually isn’t.”

    g-day!

You are quite Ted right this is a scam ……. Check scam !

The scammer will want to rent a room and will offer to send a check or money order for much more money than you ask.

He will tell you to cash the check and send him (or his agent) the “extra money” by Western Union . This check or money order will be fake, even if your bank cashes the check or tells
you that it “cleared”!!!! The bank will find out in a few days
or weeks that the check is fake, and will make you pay all of
the money back, even the money you sent to the scammer.

The bank might even have you arrested for cashing a bad check.

This is a common scam that has caused many people to lose their money. This crook is trying this scam on many people at the same time, and is hoping you won’t know that the check is a fake until he has your money.

Any money you send by electronic transfer services such as Western Union and Moneygram CANNOT be recovered or traced once it has been collected.

Good luck with your room rental :-)
