Police shoot animal in Alabama?

I LIVE IN ALABAMA, I HAVE A BOXER WHO ESCAPED FROM THE FENCE TODAY, WHEN THE POLICE ARRIVED THEY STATED THAT THE ANIMAL CHARGED (WE HAVE HAD 2 OF THESE DOGS FOR 2 YEARS AND THEY STILL RUN FROM US!!) AND THE SHOT IT IMMEDIATELY? I HAVE LOOKED FOR LAWS IN ALABAMA PROHIBITING AN OFFICER FROM DOING SUCH A THING, BUT MUST NOT BE LOOKING IN THE RIGHT PLACE.

IF YOU COULD LET ME KNOW, WHERE I COULD FIND THIS–STATE LAWS OR CITY ORDINANCES?

When dogs are scared they do weird stuff. Remember, they are animals and will aways go back to their instincts when scared. Just ask Mike Vic.

You know police officers are so cruel and there should be something filed against these assholes. They think that they can get away with so much because they have a gun and a badge. They all idiots. I have owned plenty of boxers and they never tried to attack anyone they loved everyone so when this officer said that your dog charged him I would not believe him at all. Now if it was a pit i would believe him cause they are mean but not a boxer. I hope you find what you are looking for.

If a dog charges a police officer and he feels threatened, then he has every right to shoot a dog. Sounds legal to me…

If your dog charged the police officer, then the officer had no choice. They have the right to use deadly force is the situation calls for it.

Too bad you broke the law and allowed your dog to get out unrestrained. It was the dog owners fault, not the police officers.

Gotta tell ya. No law prevents Police Officers from shooting a dog that is attacking them. As long as they were attacked by the dog they were justified in killing it.
Policy usually stipulates that they have to fill out a use of force report for putting down animals.
If you feel their actions were unwarranted then you should file a complaint with their supervisor.

There is probably an ordinance about keeping your animals secured in a fence or on a leash.

Dude i live in Mississippi and if you have dogs they need to be in a fenced area or on a chain. The police officer that shot your dog had the right to do so if the dog attacked him/her. All you can do is file a complaint with the department against the officer and see if anything gets done. As far as i know there is nothing stating that an officer can’t shoot an animal for attacking them. I would shoot it if it attacked me and was trying to injure me as would you if it happened to you. You need to look at it from everyone else’s stand point and ask yourself what would i have do if that was me? Good luck and i hope the next dog you get you keep safe in the backyard.
